Many residents in the area are aware that an 8-storey long-term care home, and a 15-storey retirement home with associated parking, services, and amenities, is proposed to be built at the Riverside campus of The Ottawa Hospital. The proposal was submitted to the City in Fall 2021 on behalf of Schlegal Villages Inc., a private corporation that has developed similar “village setting” care communities in other parts of Ontario. The former Councillor for Ward 18 held a public meeting on the proposed development in June 2022. Comments on the proposal are still being accepted.
