My first four months as the elected representative for Alta Vista ward have been busy ones. Here are some of the things I have been working on:
- In December, following the release of the Light rail commission, I put forward a motion at council for the City to develop a project management policy and framework to work towards stronger guidance and oversight within the city on future projects. This policy and framework will be coming for review to the Corporate Services Committee in the coming months.
- In February at Community Services Committee, I put forward a motion that was approved unanimously by committee and council requesting that the staff report back with a plan to permanently house unhoused residents who have been staying in community centers over the course of the last three years, including Dempsey and Heron Road community centres in Ward 18.
- In February, I put forward a revised motion at the Police Services Board to ensure that delegations at the Police Services Board were able to take place during the meetings.
- I had staff initiate the front-end development agreement with the developer at Herongate to commence redevelopment of Sandalwood Park in Herongate
- I transferred Cash in Lieu funds from our office to initiate building a splashpad at Walkley and Russell, next to the Confederation Court Community. I have also worked with staff to ensure the Splash Pad at Coronations will start construction in June 2023.
- I recently was successful in ensuring the parking lot at Grasshopper Hill will be repaired, and that it will be added to snow clearing schedule for next winter given the accessibility issues this year.
- I put forward a motion at Council to delay the removal of the scaffolding at Hurdman station. I am working with staff to find a permanent solution to improve shelter for transit riders
- I have taken transit tours with residents to hear concerns related to station quality, accessibility issues, and general concerns being seen throughout our transit system
- I have hosted a number of community town halls, including one in Elmvale and one in Hawthorne Meadows, as well as meetings on specific developments.
- I have hosted three coffee and chat events and have really enjoyed the chance to connect with residents and hear concerns firsthand. My team has also answered over 1000 queries to residents and met with over 25 community groups.
