Marty Carr visiting an Alta Vista Child Care Centre

Marty Carr is passionate about building an inclusive and accessible community for all Ottawa residents. After a 20-plus year career in management in the federal government, she is happy to be representing Ward 18 at City Council.

Alta Vista has been Marty’s home since 2004, where she lives with her husband (Chris), children (Molly and Henry), and three dogs (Jax, Boomer, and Yuri). An active volunteer, she has served on school councils, community groups, and as President of the Alta Vista Community Association.

Marty holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in French Language and Literature (University of Alberta), and a Master of Arts degree in Linguistics (Laval University).

Staying connected and engaging with residents is a top priority for Marty. She is committed to representing residents and wants to know the issues that are important to you.

  • Environment and Climate Change

Ward 18 Priorities

Over her four-year term as Councillor, Marty plans to deliver on these priorities Alta Vista residents are asking for.

  • Work with residents and community associations on a ward-wide plan to implement traffic calming measures.
  • Help reduce speeding through 40 km/hour signage (where most street residents agree).
  • Establish a fenced-in dog park within the Alta Vista ward.
  • Improve public transit—reliable local service, fairness for Para Transpo users, advocate for on-demand services in underserved areas.
  • Improve access to recreation: Initiate a plan to develop a new or redevelop a community centre within the ward.
  • Identify and remove barriers to access to ensure all residents can equally participate in and contribute to the community.
  • Accessible housing:  Work to ensure there are accessible units in all new housing developments.
  • Improve Alta Vista’s tree canopy.
  • Increase active transportation networks (cycling and walking) to better connect neighbourhoods.
  • Improve access to local food through partnerships with organizations, more community gardens, and access to urban agriculture.
  • Lead ward-wide consultations and meetings on issues impacting the ward.
  • Host regular community chats in ward neighbourhoods to hear residents’ ideas and concerns.
