On January 26th, the Centretown Community Association invited me to speak on affordable housing in Ottawa and the challenges and opportunities we see at their Housing Affordability Working Group meeting. I’m proud of the investment and progress our City has made this term, with 903 affordable housing units currently in construction, 470 units nearing construction readiness, and another 192 units in the pre-development stage. However, there is still work to do and there are still many challenges we face, such as funding, a lack of options for specific populations, and market-driven factors.
