Spring is here and with it always comes construction and taking care of our infrastructure.
As I’m sure you are all aware, the Bank Street Renewal Project is underway to install new storm sewers, sanitary sewars and watermains for our community and reconstruct our roads, sidewalks, cycle tracks and traffic signals.
To expedite the underground infrastructure replacements at the intersection of Bank Street and Heron Road, Heron Road between Bank Street and Alta Vista Drive will be temporarily closed beginning on Sunday, June 1, 2025, until late summer. Current Bank Street lane reductions between Riverside Drive and Collins Avenue will remain in effect. There will also be a temporary detour using Walkley Road during the road closure.
The attached drawing shows the traffic calming measures that will be installed in the Alta Vista community in addition to the traffic calming measures that are already in place. It may be revised somewhat but this will give you a good idea of what’s going to be installed.
This will include:
- Flex stakes on Alta Vista Drive, Randall Avenue, Ridgemont Avenue, Renfield Avenue and Erie Avenue
- Speed limits will be reduced to 40kmph on Alta Vista Drive
- No parking on Randall Avenue
For residents with properties near Heron Road:
Residents north of Heron Road will access their properties from Evans Rd by converting Heron between Alta Vista and Evans into a two-way road.
Residents south of Heron Road will access their properties from Edge Hill by converting Heron between Edge Hill and Bank into a two-way road. There will also be the option of going east on Heron at Alta Vista.
